Today I would like to mark an important event for me: my postgraduate student, Alhussein Alaa Naji Dakhal, successfully defended his Candidate of Sciences dissertation entitled “Modified Addressed Fiber Bragg Gratings with Microwave-Photonic Interrogation in Local pH-Control Systems” in the scientific specialty 2.2.6 “Optical and Optoelectronic Devices and Complexes.”
We have been working with Alaa for more than four years. During this time, he has proven himself to be a purposeful, responsible, and exceptionally hardworking researcher. He carried out a substantial part of his dissertation work almost independently, consistently progressing from a postgraduate student mastering a scientific problem to a mature researcher capable of formulating and solving relevant scientific tasks.
It is especially important that the results of his work have received not only formal recognition in the form of a dissertation, but also real acknowledgement from the scientific community. One of the papers we prepared and published in a first-quartile journal was cited more than 60 times in less than six months after publication, which is more than nine times higher than the field-weighted average citation level. For a young researcher, this is a serious indicator of the scientific relevance and demand for the results obtained.
For me as his scientific supervisor, this defense is of particular significance. I believe that by the time of his defense, Alhussein Alaa Naji Dakhal had not merely fulfilled the formal requirements for a Candidate of Sciences dissertation; he had truly established himself as an independent scientist.
I sincerely congratulate Alaa on his successful defense and wish him further professional growth, new scientific results, and confident continuation of his research career.
